Makerspace Monday – Shiloh Middle School
Shiloh Middle School will hold its first “Makerspace Monday” on Monday, January 23, from 3 to 5 p.m. in
the school’s media center. Students will have an opportunity to engage in
interactive stations related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
These stations encourage discovery, creativity, problem solving, and innovation
with a hands-on approach.
Students will have access to exciting technology materials in the
space, such as Ozobots, 3D printing, virtual reality, and much more, provided
by a partnership with Carroll County Public Library. Makerspace Monday is also
part of the Learning Advantage Partnership, which is celebrating its 10th
anniversary.
Space is limited to the first 30 students who return permission
slips. Additional dates for Makerspace Monday are February 27, March 20, and
April 24.

Pre-Employment Transition Services Parent Meeting
The Division of Rehabilitation Services will hold a
pre-employment transition services meeting for parents on Tuesday, January 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carroll Nonprofit
Building in Westminster. Topics include student plans after high school,
real-life work experience, and information on how to get your student signed up
for afterschool programs that can improve their employability skills. Please

Board Meetings
The Board of Education of Carroll
County and the Board of Carroll County Commissioners will hold a joint meeting
on Thursday, January 26, at 1:30
p.m. The meeting will be held in the Charles I. Ecker Boardroom at the Board of
Education offices, located at 125 North Court Street in Westminster. The
purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Carroll County Career and Technology
Center Feasibility Study. The
Board also will be holding a special meeting at 3:00 p.m. for approval of the
revised legislative position statements.
The meetings will be broadcast live on
Channel 21 and streamed live on the Carroll County Public Schools website at www.carrollk12.org.

Thirty-One
Bag Bingo – Francis Scott Key High School
The Francis Scott Key High School Advisory
Council will be hosting a thirty-one bag bingo on Friday, January 27, in the cafeteria. Join us for the chance to win
hundreds of dollars in gift cards, a 40-inch TV, and reserved tickets to FSK’s
graduation! All proceeds will benefit the school’s AP test scholarships and
Character Education program. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with the first game starting at 6:45 p.m. Plan to arrive
early for a chance to patronize the many vendors who will be in attendance.

Showcase Concert – Manchester Elementary School
Beginner instrumental music
students in grades 4 and 5 at Manchester Elementary School will hold a beginner
showcase concert on Wednesday, February
1, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Students will have the
opportunity to perform for other students, friends, family, and the community.

Sensory Friendly Movie Night Out
The CCPS Autism Program
will present a sensory friendly movie night out on Thursday, February 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Winters Mill
High School cafeteria and media center. Children will enjoy pizza, popcorn, and
the movie Finding Dory in the
cafeteria. Space to move and sensory items will be available. Parents will join
their children for pizza and then attend an informational session on
Puberty/Adolescence or Managing Problem Behaviors at Home.

Manchester Elementary School
Students at Manchester
Elementary School will showcase their talents during a talent show on Friday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the
school gym. The snow date will be Friday, February 10.

Read Across America
The annual Read Across
America – A Celebration of Reading will be held on Saturday, February 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at TownMall of
Westminster. This event is sponsored by the Carroll County Education
Association, Carroll Association of School Employees, and the TownMall of
Westminster.
A free breakfast for
children, courtesy of Hahn’s, Salerno’s, and Food Pro, will begin at 10 a.m.
There will be a variety of read alouds featuring French and Spanish books,
Seuss books, and the National Braille Foundation. Free books will include The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss for the first
200 children, as well as a variety of books from Random House and a book
giveaway table. Other activities will include balloon art from 11 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. and magician Dave Thoman from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
There also will be face
painting, a Truffula Tree seed toss, tic-tac-toe Green Eggs and Ham, and If I
Ran the Zoo toss across. Children can make and take face masks of the Lorax,
add their foot to the Read Across America welcome mat, color activity pages, and
have photo opportunities with Seuss inspired selfie stations. They also will
meet the Cat in the Hat, the Orioles Bird, and the Baltimore Ravens’ Poe.

Mentoring
Program – Sandymount Elementary School
Sandymount Elementary School has started a new mentoring
program. Twenty students who would benefit from an adult mentor were matched
with volunteer staff. At the kickoff, the mentors got to know their buddies and
participated in team-building activities. The mentors will be offering the
extra support that means so much to their students throughout the second
semester by meeting with them for lunch and special activities.
