Maxine Carole Wooleyhand, 68 of Sykesville, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born January 10, 1943 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Helen C. Good and the late Carl R. Van Horn. She was the wife of William H. Wooleyhand of Sykesville, her husband of 49 years.
She was a graduate of Carroll Community College.
She was a volunteer for numerous organizations including the Cub Scouts, Sykesville Little League, Carroll County Food Sunday, and Our Daily Bread. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg where she served on the Church Council, and as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. As a youth in Baltimore, she worked for the Little Sisters of The Poor and as a Sunday School leader at St. Ursula's in Parkville. She was a longtime member of the Lakeview Homemakers and the Carroll County Women's Fair. She served a four year term on the Sykesville Town Council and was also elected to the Democratic Central Committee.
She spent two years as the President of the Democratic Central Committee. She was appointed to the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Evelyn Wooleyhand of Harrogate, England, Christopher and Deborah Wooleyhand of Severn, Eric and Anne Wooleyhand of Eldersburg, and Shawn and Rebecca Wooleyhand of Sykesville, grandchildren Lindsay Wooleyhand of Harrogate, England, Lucas and Lillian Wooleyhand of Severn, Jessica and Bridget Wooleyhand of Eldersburg, and Nicole, Joseph, Joshua, and Kathryn Wooleyhand, all of Sykesville, and a nephew Raymond Van Horn of Westminster.
Funeral liturgy will be held on Friday at 10:00 am St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Rd., Eldersburg. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville.
Friends may call at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Dr., 1st Floor, Baltimore, MD 21211, or to the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department, P.O. Box 275, Sykesville, MD 21784.
