Burned Biscuits

This is a great message for all those that forget to love others unconditionally!!!!

Burned Biscuits

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular, when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!

Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly, burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing......never made a face nor uttered a word about it!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits every now and then."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night, and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your momma put in a hard day at work today, and she's real tired. And besides, a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!"

As I've grown older, I've thought about that many times. Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and even anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I've learned over the years is that accepting each other's faults--and choosing to celebrate each other's differences--is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today.....that you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker!

Borrowed from Ann M. Prueter

The I was hoping to find the author. I did not; however, I liked the approach to the story I found here: http://www.focusonlinecommunities.com/blogs/Finding_Home/2011/11/08/burned-biscuits and I borrowed the pictures "Focus on the Family" used to illustrate the story...

Philippians 2:14-15: 14. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15. so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” New International Version (NIV)

Happy Holidays from The Marriage Resource Center of Carroll County

Happy Holidays from The Marriage Resource Center of Carroll County

Dear Friends of MRC,

Can you believe it's almost the end of 2011? Another year has passed us by so quickly.   As we here at The Marriage Resource Center are making many exciting plans for 2012, (Celebrate Marriage, a No Jerks/Jerkettes training, a mentor training, the new Best Love Project, Make It Last, and more) we would like you to take a minute to consider an end-of-year donation to MRC.

Marriages are stronger, parents are encouraged, fathers are spending more time with their children, and youth and singles are making better choices because of our work.

Our 2012 commitment to you, your families and our community is to be Champions For Children and we need an army of people who want invest in this commitment.

If you haven't had a chance to contribute regularly, need to catch up on your giving or want to give in honor of someone at this special time of year, please prayerfully consider giving something extra to MRC.  You may go to www.marriageresourceccc.org to donate online. And of course, we still welcome the traditional check made payable to Marriage Resource Center, 255 Clifton Boulevard, Suite 213, Westminster, MD 21157.

We hope that this Christmas and holiday season holds many blessings for you, our gracious supporters. It has been our pleasure to serve you this past year.

David Brinkley « Jim Ellis Insights

David Brinkley « Jim Ellis Insights: "It’s getting so you can’t tell the players in the Maryland’s 6th congressional race without a scorecard.

http://jimellisinsights.wordpress.com/tag/david-brinkley/

The Democratic congressional redistricting plan upended Rep. Roscoe Bartlett’s (R) 6th District, transforming it from a safely Republican seat to one that will likely elect a Democrat. The feisty Bartlett, who will be 86 at the time of the next election, defiantly said he would seek an 11th term in 2012 regardless of how his district is drawn. But, is his decision changing?

Earlier in the week, it was reported that the congressman’s chief of staff, Bud Otis, was contacting key opinion leaders, testing the waters for his own run for Congress in the new 6th. He was telling people that he would run only if Mr. Bartlett decided to retire. Just yesterday, however, he resigned his position in order to begin the campaign. For his part, Rep. Bartlett still says he’s running. It appears Otis is, too.

These recent moves have prompted Maryland Republican Party chairman Alex Mooney to also enter the congressional race. Mooney served two terms in the Maryland Senate, but surprisingly went down to defeat in 2010, in the most Republican of years."
