Women Who Know Their Place

Women Who Know Their Place

Happy Monday - - The Monday morning thought of the day to get the week started-out correctly. This was shared with me by way of an email by a very wise women in our community. 7May2018 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10213833935216141&set=a.10203968656950350.1073741840.1040426835&type=3&theater

Women Who Know Their Place

Barbara Walters did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before our involvement in the Afghan conflict.

She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to and are happy to, maintain the old custom.

Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, "Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?"

The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, "Land Mines."

No matter what language you speak or where you go,

Moral of this story is:

BEHIND EVERY MAN, THERE'S A REALLY SMART WOMAN.

An Open Letter to Carroll County Maryland Sheriff's Department

Wow - but this letter does not surprise me. This is what we do in Carroll County. We have the best law enforcement agencies and best fire companies. Hats off to Cpl. Jeremy Holland and Sheriff Jim DeWees.

[…]

“I debated for a second on who to send the e-mail to. I decided to send it directly to Sheriff Jim DeWees. Thinking it would turn out the way the Florida efforts did, I didn’t expect much, especially being I’m not even the parent, I’m just a concerned friend of the family. Within thirty minutes of the e-mail, Cpl. Jeremy Holland contacted me. When my phone rang, I started tearing up the second he said who he was. For the first time I felt like the right people were in my friend’s corner. After our conversation he contacted both my friend and her husband….”

Maryland State Police are investigating an incident at the Carroll County Regional Airport tonight that resulted in a plane coming off of the runway. https://trib.al/NPt5NRF

Maryland State Police are investigating an incident at the Carroll County Regional Airport that resulted in a plane coming off of the runway, Cpl. Jordan Snedeker confirmed Thursday night.

At 8:21 p.m., the emergency communications center was alerted to a “small plane crash,” Westminster Volunteer Fire Company public information officer Kevin Dayhoff said. Multiple units from Westminster responded, he said.

Upon arrival, they located a small plane off of the runway and occupants were out of the plane, Dayhoff said.

There were no injuries, he added.

At about 9:10 p.m., Snedeker said police believe something happened while the plane was landing, causing it to come off the runway and into the grass. Police don’t yet know the type of plane or how many people were inside, Snedeker said.

Maryland State Police will be investigating to find out what happened and what caused the incident, he said.

Westminster Fire Department responds to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 140 and Englar Road that snarled traffic for several hours Saturday

April 21, 2018 by Westminster Fire Department PIO and Chaplain Kevin Dayhoff

A serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 140 and Englar Road snarled traffic for several hours Saturday evening just outside of Westminster.

On Sat., April 21, 2018, at approximately 8:30 in the evening, units from the Westminster Fire Department, Westminster City Police, and the Maryland State Police responded to a call for a two-vehicle head-on vehicle collision at the intersection of Englar Road and Route 140 – Baltimore Blvd.

Emergency units responded quickly to the scene. Upon arrival, Westminster Fire Department Lt. Guy Garheart found a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the middle of the intersection. A Taneytown police officer on his way to work had happened upon the scene and was assisting the response. Although there was significant property damage to both vehicles, fortunately no-one was injured seriously in the accident.

And fortunately, no first responders - police officers, EMS providers or firefighters were hurt. This, in spite of a series of several serious incidents in which drivers drove around the cones and flares at traffic control points – and through the accident scene, in order to hasten their travels - directly endangering the lives of the first responders.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Marriage & Relationship Education Center is a 50l
(c) (3) faith-based organization established in 2004 and is located in the
Carroll Non Profit Center in Westminster. We are dedicated to improving the
lives of children in our community by strengthening families through marriage
and relationship education, partnerships and public awareness efforts.

As an organization, MREC works with a proactive, educational
approach through classes that teach skills necessary for couples to deal with
conflict while better understanding their mate.

In addition, MREC encourages couples and individuals through
awareness efforts to have positive connections/ experiences and make healthy
life decisions.

To maximize our impact, MREC staff is certified in many
curriculums to train other key individuals/churches as teachers. This knowledge
sharing creates a ripple effect of healthy relationship skills and
strengthens families in our community.

Our Founders - Retired Carroll County Public School
educators, Bill and Anne McKenna, have been married 53 years. They have
four children and 12 grandchildren. Bill spent over 30 years teaching,
coaching, and as an athletic director. The McKennas are certified in multiple
marriage education programs. They started their work in marriage education by developing a marriage ministry in their local church. As the word spread to other
churches, they decided, with the encouragement of the local ministerium, to form
an independent organization that utilized a proactive approach to strengthening
families.

The Marriage & Relationship Education Center (formally
known as Marriage Resource Center) was founded in November of 2004 and gained
501(c) 3 status in December, 2006.
