On Friday, February 9, 2007, Dick Hull retired from Carroll Land Services. The creative genius that made Carroll Land Services so successful can still be seen through the lens of his camera.

According to Carroll County Times writer Jacob deNobel, the exhibition started on Thursday, January 22, 2015 and is “running until Feb. 28. The exhibition features photography from the group's 38 members and families, with subjects including nature photography, still-lifes, abstract images and landscapes

Mr. deNobel quotes Mr. Hull to remark, “Richard Hull, a nature photographer from Manchester who will be exhibiting in the show, said he began taking pictures in the mid-'80s when he became involved with underwater photography. When he bought his first digital camera in 2005, he had trouble with the new technology, though soon embraced the tech wholeheartedly.

“‘I’m not a computer guy, so to learn computers and the programs was pretty tough," Hull said. "In my opinion, it really is superior a lot of the time, even though there are people who would hate to hear me say it.’”

ManneqART Announces 2015 Events Schedule

ManneqART Announces 2015 Events Schedule

ManneqART has announced its 2015 Competition which features the following unique and exciting events:

·         March 28-29 Sculpture on the Human Form Workshop for students and beginning artists
·         April 30--Artworks entry deadline
·         June 21 ManneqART Madness--Public introduction of the 2015 artworks
·         September 12-26  Public Display of Artworks
·         September 27 Gala and Stage Show

ManneqART is a 501c3 nonprofit arts and education organization and competition based in Howard County, focused on bringing the Wearable Arts to the public.

Now in its third year, it’s mission is to inspire creativity and reward excellence in the field of wearable art.  ManneqART reaches out to beginning and accomplished artists of all ages and skill levels and invites them to think outside their comfort zones to create artworks unlike anything our community has seen in the past.   A gallery of more than 150 artworks created by ManneqART contestants from 30+ states can be seen at:

Since ManneqART was founded in 2013,  it has become an exciting Howard County arts event and a part of the Columbia Festival of the Arts.  Nearly 200 artworks have been presented to the community,  including over 100 shown at 16 Howard County locations for two weeks in September, 2014.

Last year's entries included artworks from 19 states made of all kinds of materials, from metals and paper, to spray foam and melted plastic bags.   Artist awards totaling $10,000 were presented to artists in several categories.

For 2015,  ManneqART has entered into a Partnership Agreement with the Howard County Public Schools System to train students to create 3-dimension, wearable art.  Studies suggest that arts training might be related to improvements in math or reading skills.

A March 28-29 Workshop will feature accomplished wearable artists teaching students and others  how to work with materials,  structure and colors to create artworks for the 2015 Competition.

ManneqART is unique and growing non-profit but we can't provide these artworks to the Howard County community with the communities support.  We are seeking contributions for the 2015 competition.   and would be grateful for support in many different forms, including artist sponsorships, events support, in-kind contributions, cash donations,  fundraising outreach, volunteers and more.
For more information about entering or supporting the 2015 competition,  go to the ManneqART website at www.manneqart.org, email info@manneqart.org or call 301.725.5555

BACKGROUND:

Lee Andersen, a Kiwi from the North Island of New Zealand, founded ManneqArt in 2013, as an innovative nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization created to promote the arts and the artists.  ManneqART is patterned after New Zealand's 25 year old World of Wearable Art which attracts artists from all over the world and welcomes 50,000 plus visitors each year to Wellington, NZ.   An artist and highly successful "art to wear" fashions designer by trade,  Andersen is also well known for her unique knitted fashions worn by both public and private clients, such as Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad.   Some of Andersen's cutting edge designs are on display at the Te Papa Museum in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.   Today, she manufactures the Lee Andersen Collection at her 16,000 square foot factory in Howard County.   Her label is currently found in 800 boutiques in the US and Canada.

More than 100 entries in the 2014 Competition were displayed free to the public for two weeks in September at 16 locations around Howard County.   Hundreds of people visited the displays.   The  June 2014 Hair and Makeup Competition attracted 1000+ visitors to Historic Savage Mill to see all the extreme hair and makeup designs professionally photographed on models wearing the unique 2014 artworks.

Red Maryland: Should an “R” behind the name make a difference?

I received this (Letter to the Editor) by Twitter the other day - January 24, 2015 Saturday Red Carroll @RedCarrollMd @ChangeMaryland @CarrollStandard @frednewspost @kevindayhoff @wbaltv11 @cbsbaltimore More questions @joegetty seat keepcarrollconservative.com/should-an-r-be…

An open letter from Keep Carroll Conservative to Senator Joe Getty:

Dear Senator Getty,

[…]

We ask you to please help us understand the inconsistencies in the Hogan administration talking points for the last month. We’ve posted screen shots that show you started your new position with the Hogan Administration but now someone is covering those tracks and your profile shows no starting date to for your new appointment. You’re our home-town guy who should have the best interests of Carroll County in mind, right? Perhaps you can help answer a number of troubling questions:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Who Are We?

Keep Carroll Conservative is a grass-roots organization made up of concerned citizens who reside in Carroll County. We live here because we believe Carroll County stands for less government, lower taxes, great schools, and safe neighborhoods.  And we want it to remain that way.

We know that it’s people, not government, who make – and keep – Carroll the “Switzerland” of Maryland Counties.  (You know Switzerland.  It’s the tiny, conservative Country in Europe that’s currently holding the whole region together.)  We know conservative principles are the only governing principles that have survived the test of time.  It explains why Switzerland is doing so well while all the liberal countries around it are dealing with collapse.

It’s our focus to share the greatness of conservatism; get the best candidates elected to public offices in Carroll County; and keep you informed about the latest goings on in Carroll. http://keepcarrollconservative.com/about-us/
