Amedori Challenges Fellow Republican Candidates To Join Her Petition To Stop Reconciliation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 9, 2010

AMEDORI CHALLENGES FELLOW REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES TO JOIN HER PETITION TO STOP RECONCILIATION

(Westminster, MD) Today, Carmen Amedori, Republican candidate for United States Senate in Maryland, called upon her fellow Republican United States Senate candidates to join her online petition asking for Senator Barbara Mikulski to vote no on reconciliation for Obamacare.

“We need to present a united front on the most pressing issue confronting our state and country right now. And that issue is the forcing down our throats of health care reform. I ask my fellow Republican candidates to join with me on sending a message to the incumbent that she should vote no on reconciliation,” said Amedori.

Yesterday Amedori launched an online petition collecting names of people across the states who also want to encourage Mikulski to vote no on reconciliation. “I am pleased with the results so far, but we still need more people to join this effort. It will be close to impossible to turn the clock back if Obamacare is passed. Even with the House and Senate being controlled by Republicans in 2011, the President will still be able to veto any repeals. That’s why Marylanders need to have their voices heard now,” stated Amedori.

Reconciliation is not the method to pass health care reform. This parliamentary maneuver has never been used for such a sweeping piece of legislation,” said Amedori. “The President’s plan for health care reform is seriously flawed. That’s why no one elected Republican Senator will support the legislation.”

Reconciliation has been used 19 times since 1980. 12 of those times the procedure was used to pass omnibus budget bills that had an overwhelming support in the Senate. Only on 2 occasions the budget bills were controversial enough to lack bipartisan support.

“I hope that my fellow candidates will join my effort. This is one of the most important legislative fights in our lifetime. Our differences on other issues should be put aside to send the strongest message possible to the incumbent who is listens more to Harry Reid than the people of Maryland. It is time to put Maryland first. No on reconciliation,” said Amedori.

Amedori thinks that her fellow Republican candidates are not focused on the here and now with the circulation of the unity pledge. “We are facing a massive government takeover of health care and they are talking about unity after the Primary. Let’s be united on an issue that matters,” added Amedori.

Carmen Amedori - I am a candidate for the US Senate because:

I am a candidate for the US Senate because, like you, I am sick and tired of the Big Government in our wallets. Like you, I am sick and tired of the wasteful spending inside the beltway. It is time to send the incumbents home. It is time to have new ideas and fresh blood to help return the government to the side of We The People.

I was born and raised in Baltimore until age 15, at which time my family moved to Baltimore County. I have resided in Carroll County for 30 years. Before entering politics, I was employed as a journalist with The Baltimore Sun and The Carroll County Times, while raising two children.

From 1999 thru 2004, I had the honor to represent the citizens of Carroll County in the MD House of Delegates and served the entire time on the Judiciary Committee. During my tenure, I was Deputy Minority Whip and Assistant Minority Leader.

In 2004, then Governor Robert Ehrlich appointed me to the Maryland Parole Commission where I served until Dec. 2009 when my appointment expired. I am the very proud Mother of two daughters; Nicole, 30 and Kara, 27.

20100304 I am a candidate for the US Senate because

AMEDORI: Launches Online Petition to Stop Reconciliation

(Westminster, MD) Today, Carmen Amedori, Republican candidate for United States Senate in Maryland, launched an online petition calling on United States Senator Barbara Mikulski to vote no on reconciliation for Obamacare. Please sign Carmen’s Petition by visiting http://www.amedoriforsenate.com/petition.php

“Reconciliation is not the method to pass health care reform.

“I am launching this online effort to send a message to our Senator that Marylanders don’t want Obamacare forced down our throats and that she should vote against reconciliation,” state Amedori. “A national mandate is not a way to make health care more affordable.”

People can join Carmen’s effort by visiting
www.amedoriforsenate.com or by friending Amedori For U.S. Senate on facebook.

Amedori believes that a health care reform package must include tort reform, associated health plans, rules that allow people to purchase health insurance across state lines, more emphasis on health savings accounts and a method for allowing people with pre-existing conditions to purchase insurance coverage.

Amedori is a former Maryland House Delegate where she served on the Judiciary Committee and quickly rose to the position of Assistant Minority Leader. She earned a distinguished reputation for being tough on crime, a strong advocate for property rights, and a champion for small business. In 2004, Governor Robert Ehrlich honored Amedori by appointing her to the Maryland Parole Commission where she served until last year.

Amedori is a graduate of Stevenson University. Before entering public life, she was a paralegal and journalist for the Baltimore Sun. She is the proud mother of two daughters.

Amedori believes that as the next United States Senator she can do a better job for the people of Maryland. She wants to Maryland First ahead of political partisanship. “It is time we had a Senator focused on results rather than political gamesmanship. As a former member of the House Delegates, I know how to make a difference. Barbara has had 24 years and now is the time for new leadership,” added Amedori.

AMEDORI: Health Care Reform Must Address Costs

(Westminster, MD) Today, Carmen Amedori, Republican candidate for United States Senate in Maryland, commented on President Obama’s bipartisan health care summit by stating that the plan must address costs in order to increase availability across the nation.

“It’s the costs! It’s the costs! It’s the costs! In a perfect world no one would ever get sick and everyone would have insurance just in case. But in the real world, skyrocketing costs are forcing Marylanders to make hard choices. By mandating people to get health insurance, you are not driving down the costs. Just look at what happened in Massachusetts when they mandated coverage but yet they did not address cost issues. Within the first two years, insurance premiums increased 50% and they are going up again this year. Their insurance premiums have increased faster than the rest of the nation,” said Amedori.

Amedori believes that a reform package must include tort reform, associated health plans, rules that allow people to purchase health insurance across state lines, and more emphasis on health savings accounts. Moreover, she believes if Congress could just agree on one reform it should be to allow people with pre-existing conditions to purchase insurance coverage.

Absent from today’s summit was Senator Barbara Mikulski. Only Congressman Steny Hoyer from Maryland was invited which has many people wondering how effective Mikulski is.

She wants to Maryland First ahead of political partisanship. “It is time we had a Senator focused on results rather than political gamesmanship. As a former member of the House Delegates, I know how to make a difference. Barbara has had 24 years and now is the time for new leadership,” added Amedori.

Maxine's View On Health Care Reform

Maxine's View On Health Care Reform:

Let me get this straight......we're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also is exempt from it and hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong?

The Fall of Marion Barry
Roy Meachum
On Wednesday The Washington Post published: “A defiant D.C. Council Member Marion Barry told a packed Baptist church in Southeast Washington on Tuesday night that despite the decision of the City Council to censure him and strip him of his committee chairmanship, he doesn’t plan to fade away…,’’ the former mayor told several hundred supporters. “They may take my committee chair. They can’t take my dignity.”

Assault on Religion
Joe Charlebois
As secularists worldwide continue their battle against religion, their successes may or may not have an absolute effect on our First Amendment.

Derailing Justice Again
Norman M. Covert
It is probable that the G-Men of the U. S. Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation are content, sleeping well tonight. One might observe that Mrs. Diane Ivins and her family have been denied such slumber. Dr. Bruce Ivins is surely in the care of his Father in Heaven.

Unionizing Child Care Workers: Why?
Patricia A. Kelly
A column yesterday morning in The Frederick News Post by Marta Mossburg of the Maryland Public Policy Institute inspired me to look around and see what’s happening in government.

An Opposing View…
Derek Shackelford
As a columnist it is an honor and a privilege to share my respective views. It can be rather difficult sometimes to articulate them, putting pen to paper. One could say it would be easier to express opinions via another medium.

Horton Hatches the Egg
Kevin E. Dayhoff
Yesterday was the 107th birthday of Theodor Geisel from Springfield, MA. I say with a smile, my little crocodile, you may know him better as an early trendsetter, as the good Dr. Seuss, you may deduce, because I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. To you I’m so faithful one-hundred percent.

Diamond Panning In Borneo
Tom McLaughlin
Ngabang, Landank, Indonesia – Panning for diamonds? I had heard of panning for gold but never for diamonds. This I had to try!

FBI Report? Hog Wash!
Roy Meachum
New Orleans detectives rode Aunt Kate and me to a restaurant where crabs and oysters were free for anyone buying beer. In my case, it was Barque’s root beer, once a local drink made and bottled on the Mississippi Gulf Shore. (The Coca Cola Corporation did me and all the other displaced coonasses a great favor when it bought Barq’s lock, stock and barrel of caffeinated root beer.)

A Great Divide Vanquished
Nick Diaz
Enough with this “bipartisan” nonsense. Enough about “divisiveness.” Let’s go back to 2004, an election year.

A Proper Budgetary Alternative
Farrell Keough
A friend of mine has a home on the corner of a busy road. Because of this, he is able to sell a myriad of things in his front yard – from cars to lawn mowers to any number of items.

Change you can shovel
Richard B. Weldon Jr.
There is no doubt that global climate change is an issue. Scientists might argue about the differences between cyclical changes and man-made forces as the principal accelerant behind the changes, but there are definitely verifiable changes.

Campaign Diary – What about a Charter?
Michael Kurtianyk
February 22, 2010 – Spent two hours discussing charter form of government in Frederick County with people who’ve gone through the experience in Maryland. I must say that this issue, historically, has been broached by many people through the years.

Galen Clagett
Roy Meachum
He was president of the Board of County Commissioners when I started writing a Frederick column. The first time I essayed into local politics came the last spring before he was unceremoniously dumped in a run for the House of Delegates.

Focus on the Message
Joe Charlebois
Celebration of family and celebration of life are not family values, they are views filled with hate and discrimination. Huh?

A REVIEW – Another “Oklahoma”
Roy Meachum
The lovely musical about my father’s native state set Broadway on fire. “Oklahoma” was not only a record-breaking hit; it also set the pattern for shows that followed. “In the Heights” looks ready to pull off the same trick.

It's time for a BUDGET Revolt
Joan McIntyre
The Frederick County Board of Education was offered a solution to overcrowded schools and they refused it. It even went so far as to sidestep any meaningful conversation, citing a lack of agenda notice and preparation.

Baltimore City Turns Conservative
Chris Cavey
Even on the toughest streets of Baltimore City the blanket of snow, which buried the city, seemed to make it appear clean and pure. The police department reported that the heavy snowfall caused crime to decrease and it simultaneously taught the citizens of Baltimore a lesson on economics – conservatism.

A REVIEW – Shakespeare Theatre’s Triumphal Pair
Roy Meachum
Shakespeare’s history is not to be trusted. He remains true to his profession as storyteller, feeling free to fudge on petty details; sometimes he manages whopping lies, as long as the ending comes out to accord with factual truths. Washington’s Shakespeare Theatre Company has a pair of doozies currently running in repertory: Richard II and Henry V.

Sarasota Snowbird
Kevin E. Dayhoff
Sarasota FL – The Orioles’ pitchers and catchers took the field last Thursday for the first day of spring training in their new training facilities in Sarasota after spending the pre-season the last 14 years in Fort Lauderdale.

Of The Past and Present….
Tom McLaughlin
Lake Toba, Sumatra Island, Indonesia – The largest volcanic crater lake in the world did not make much of an impression. Comparing it to the huge, crystal clear bodies of water in Canada, I realized, later, (don’t we always realize things later?) there can be no comparison between bodies of water on one side of the world in the very northern hemisphere to one on the opposite just along the equator.

The snow plow

The snow plow http://kbetrue.livejournal.com/302692.html

On a bitterly cold winter's morning a husband and wife in Westminster, MD were listening to the radio during breakfast. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 16-20 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplows can get through." So the good wife went out and moved her car.

A week later while they are eating breakfast again, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 18 to 24 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snowplows can get through." The good wife went out and moved her car again.

The next week they are again having breakfast, when the radio announcer says, "We are expecting24 to 30 inches of snow today. You must park...." Then the electric power went out. The good wife was very upset, and with a worried look on her face she said, "I don't know what to do. Which side of the street do I need to park on so the snowplows can get through?"

Then with the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are married to blondes exhibit, the husband replied, "Why don't you just leave the car in the garage this time."
