Windows 7 and Burger King

I found this ad for Windows 7 and Burger King on Twitpic: http://twitpic.com/photos/kevindayhoff here: http://twitpic.com/mlizq

I’m not sure I have the nerve to try Window 7 anytime soon. Fortunately I did not make the mistake many of my friends made by “down – err - upgrading” to Vista. I’m aware of a number of horror stories involving downtime and challenges in which Microsoft wanted writers to really be full-time Microsoft software technicians…

Then again, there is the persistent problem of Microsoft’s lack of any sort of meaningful customer service support – or at least that was my experience a number of years ago.

I laughed at this picture when I received it a number of years ago. Candidly, I would not care if customer support was located on the planet Mars, as long as it was helpful – and all too often it was not.

These days when I buy a product or engage a service, one of the determining factors in my decision to buy is how the question, “What is customer service like?” is answered.

Often when customer service is located overseas it is not really customer service but a Potemkin approach so that the company which sold the product can say that it provides customer service. All-too-often, the customer service employees located overseas are not provided with the “tools” or the training to provide real customer service.

I wonder if I am the only person in the world to have noticed that Bill Gates, the world’s richest man, made his fortune with a boorish and predacious company that sold a product that did not/does not work well – or performed poorly, was overpriced and had little, if no customer support? I’m just asking.

If hell owned an airline, Route 140 would be its landing strip.

DAYHOFF: Please enjoy Honoring the 'Hell Drivers of Taneytown,' in 1948 and today

Eagle Archive By Kevin Dayhoff

This month in history, 51 years to be exact, Taneytown bore witness to a "Dive Bomber Crash" at the fairgrounds.

A story in an October 1948 newspaper offers this exciting preview:

"The amazing 'Dive Bomber' crash, in which a daredevil sends a speeding stock sedan hurdling a two-ton truck and deliberately crashes his machine into a parked car, is listed as one of the featured thrillers scheduled at the Carroll County Fair grounds..."

[…]

What a hoot.

I must confess, I had never heard of the "Hell Drivers" before. In fact, I always thought "hell drivers" was a reference to the friendly folks with whom we "share" Route 140.

If hell owned an airline, Route 140 would be its landing strip.

[…]

If you have a death-defying story about driving on Route 140, don't just raise your finger, err, hand. Drop us a note or share it in the comment section on http://www.explorecarroll.com/.

Carroll County MD Planning Commission suspends Pathways Plan

News Release
Planning Commission suspends Pathways Plan
October 20, 2009 – The Planning and Zoning Commission today voted to halt work on the Carroll County Comprehensive Plan, known as the Pathways to Carroll’s Future Landscape, and direct staff instead to revise the County’s 2000 Master Plan.
That revision is to be submitted along with the state-mandated Water Resources Element by the end of November.
Comprehensive and master plans are different names for the same document, which is designed to direct growth outside of municipalities over 20 years.
Since 1992, the State of Maryland has required that such plans be reviewed every six years.
Pathways would have been the first major update to Carroll County’s growth guidelines since 1964.
The Pathways process began in June 2005 with scores of community meetings, surveys and conferences.
Input from the community outreach effort was compiled by the Department of Planning.
In April 2009, a draft of the Pathways Plan was presented by the Planning and Zoning Commission for public review.
